Prof. Dr. Mark Deuze (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands)

Mark Deuze is Professor of Media Studies at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Humanities, having served as its Director of Graduate Studies and as Director of the national Research School for Media Studies (RMeS). Before that he worked as a journalist and academic in the United States at Indiana University Bloomington, in Germany at the University of Münster, and in South Africa at the University of Johannesburg. Mark has held honorary appointments at the Faculty of Journalism at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Russia; the School of Communication of the University of Technology Sydney, Australia; the School of Arts and Humanities of Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia; and the Department of Communication and Media Studies of Northumbria University in Newcastle, United Kingdom. His work has been supported by numerous individual and collaborative grants and fellowships, including Erasmus+ and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions of the European Commission, Discovery Projects of the Australia Research Council, and a Fulbright Fellowship at the University of Southern California in the United States.

Publications include 100+ papers in academic journals and 14 books, including most recently “Happiness in Journalism” (volume co-edited with Valérie Bélair-Gagnon, Avery Holton and Claudia Mellado, published with Routledge, November 2023), “Life in Media” (The MIT Press, July 2023), and “McQuail’s Media and Mass Communication Theory” (7th edition published by Sage in May 2020, co-authored with the late Denis McQuail; 8th edition scheduled for 2025). Mark’s work has been translated in Chinese, Czech, German, Mongolian, Spanish, Portuguese, Greek, Turkish, and Hungarian. He is also the bass player and singer of Skinflower (skinflower.bandcamp.com).

Former Council of Europe expert on pluralism and new communication technologies, director of the National Film Archive, member of the board of the Association of the Cinémathèques Européennes , member of the Supervisory Board of the public television. Author of several classical in Poland publications, including: “Media and Money,” (1998), “Media on the Market. Introduction Into Media Economics,” (2006) “Between Creativity and Business. Introduction Into Media and Entertainment Management,” (2008) “Media Management ” (2013). Since 2022 member of the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT).

Alamri  Musab, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Film in the Cinema and Theater Department at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As a researcher in Saudi film industry studies, he earned his PhD in Film and Television Studies from the University of Nottingham, completing the first doctoral thesis on Saudi cinema.

Dr. Alamri has published three peer-reviewed research articles and two books on film development in Saudi Arabia. His research interests span film and media in MENA, government policies for cultural industries, and cultural identity in cinema. He is also a member of the Advisory Committee for Film Production programs at Princess Nourah University and leads projects in collaboration with Saudi government cultural initiatives.

is professor in Business Administration focused on Entrepreneurship and Business Development. She is also Director of the Media, Management and Transformation Centre (MMTC) at JIBS. She received her PhD from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. She has held previous appointments at Warwick Business School, UK and the University of Bamberg, Germany. Prof. Achtenhagen is editor-in-chief of the Journal of Media Business Studies. Her main research and teaching are in the areas of strategy and organization studies as well as entrepreneurship. Currently, her research focuses on organizing/strategizing processes of continuously growing firms, analyses of discourses transmitted by newspapers, as well as open innovation. Her research has been published in numerous book chapters and journal articles.

She is a senior lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, University of Bucharest, Romania, where she teaches courses in marketing communications, media marketing, corporate and business PR, and communications. Her research covers several areas, including the intersection of communication and democratized forms of diplomacy, with a focus on public diplomacy, civil society diplomacy, and digital diplomacy; the transformation of the PR/comms profession and industry, particularly in relation to freelancers, PR agencies, and corporate communicators, and their intersection with digital and social media; and digital governmental communication. She is a member of EUPRERA, ICA, and ECREA and co-leads the Public Relations Education Network within EUPRERA.

He served as the chair of the department from 2019 to 2023. He serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Marketing Analytics, and The International Journal of Hispanic Media. Bałandynowicz-Panfil Katarzyna, PhD in Economics, Assistant Professor at the Department of Sustainable Market Processes, Faculty of Economics, University of Gdańsk, Poland.
She implements and coordinates projects in the labor market and socio-cultural relations in cooperation with leading scientific and research institutions in Poland. Moreover, she has conducted international research projects with research centers in Hungary, Slovenia, and Romania. She is an expert in the cultural determinants of socio-economic development and aging societies, as well as a member of the Management Board of the Polish Gerontological Society, Gdańsk Branch, and a member of the Polish Demographic Society and the Polish Communication Association.

Baumann is the former head of the Media Management, Economics & Entrepreneurship Division of the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication, former European Media Management Association board member, and editorial board member of the Journal of Media Business Studies and Journal of Media Innovations. Böhm Stephan is a professor of Telecommunication and Mobile Media at the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences in Wiesbaden, Germany, and a visiting professor in Bangkok, Istanbul, and Australia.

Before joining academia in 2006, he worked for the leading strategy and technology consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton in Berlin and Düsseldorf. He co-founded the CAEBUS Center for Advanced E-Business Studies and the Mobile Media Forum. His current research focuses on interactive and AI-based media innovations, technology acceptance research, and mobile HCI/UX. He is also the co-editor of a Springer book on AI-based media innovation.

Her research aims to understand the competitive dynamics of the media marketplace, how new media change audiences’ media consumption patterns, and why audiences adopt or reject new communication technologies. It has appeared in peer-reviewed journals, including the International Journal on Media Management, the Journal of Media Economics, the International Journal of Communications, and Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly.

Her research focuses on news consumption behavior, digital journalism, and media economics. It has been published in prestigious journals such as Journalism, Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Mass Communication and Society, Journalism Practice, Journal of Information Technology & Politics, Atlantic Journal of Communication, and The Agenda Setting Journal.

She was awarded two research awards: The Selection of Innovative Research and Development Results by Young Scholars Award and the Promising Young Scholar Research Award. She has published several articles about media literacy for high school students. Before receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin, she was a TV show director at a national TV network in Taiwan. Before that, she was a journalist in a community media in Los Angeles, U.S.

Doliwa Urszula, Prof, is head of the Department of Journalism at the Institute of Journalism and Social Communication at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland.

She was Chair of the Scientific Council of the Discipline of Social Communication and Media Studies at the University of Warmia and Mazury from 2019 to 2022. A graduate of journalism from the University of Warsaw. She is the author of the books “Radio społeczne w Polsce” (2008), “Radio społeczne – trzeci obok publicznego i komercyjnego sektor radiowy” (2016), and “Pirate Waves: Polish Private Radio Broadcasting in the Period of Transformation 1989-1995” (2022).
Since 2021, she has been a Committee of Social Communication and Media Studies member at the Polish Academy of Sciences. From 2014 to 2019, she was the secretary, and from 2018 to 2020, she served as vice president of the Community Media Forum Europe. Since 2022, she has been a member of the advisory board of Prison Radio International. Since 2011, she has edited the journal Media – Culture – Social Communication.” Her research interests primarily relate to radio and sound art, civic media, and prison media. Since 2013, she has been hosting a program on Radio UWM FM dedicated to media called “Mediofon,” together with Dr. Marta Więckiewicz-Archacka.

She is currently President of the WMEMC. Her research on media economics and policy and the impact of digitisation has been published in several languages. A former President of the Association for Cultural Economics International, Gillian has carried out, supervised, and contributed to studies funded by bodies such as the UK Research Council, the European Commission, the OECD, and the Council of Europe. Gillian is a recipient of the Journal of Media Economics Honour Award and the European Media Management Association prize for outstanding scholarship contributions.

Coltrin Professor of the Year award sponsored by the International Radio-Television Society and the Distinguished Teaching Award at Western Michigan University.

Guerrero Pérez Enrique is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication at the University of Navarra, Spain.
He is an editor of the scientific journal Communication & Society. In 2007, he specialised in Entertainment and Media Management at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2009, he earned his PhD in Communication with an extraordinary distinction from the University of Navarra, with a dissertation on the standardisation of audiovisual production processes and entertainment content. He has completed international research stays at the University of California, Los Angeles (USA, 2007), Bournemouth University (United Kingdom, 2011), the University of Texas at Austin (USA, 2013), and the University of Piura (Peru, 2016).

His main research focus includes the following areas: the audiovisual industry and market, audiovisual production processes, content management/programming, the impact of technological innovation on television and other streaming audiovisual services, audience habits, the development of entertainment formats (R&D), television history, and data science applied to media.

Harms Bianca is a professor at NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences (The Netherlands), specialising in transformational media.

She focuses on how media and marketing can support the transition toward broad societal prosperity. Since 2018, she has served as a board member of the European Media Management Association (emma) and is an active reviewer for several media and marketing journals. She hosted the emma Conference in 2024 and is currently a guest editor for a special issue of the Journal of Media Business Studies, set to be published in 2025.

Her academic research spans content marketing and corporate social responsibility (CSR) communication, and she is actively involved in applied research projects on sustainable marketing, persuasive communication for behavioural change, and media ethics. She maintains strong ties with the field and has a professional background in the media industry. Bianca also has extensive experience in higher education, having worked as a lecturer in marketing and media. As the founder and former dean of the Master’s program in Content & Media Strategy, she successfully led its growth, making it the largest applied master’s program in the economic domain in the Netherlands.

Krishna Jayakar is a Professor and co-director of the Institute for Information Policy at Penn State University. He is the author (with Dr. Chun Liu) of Making Policy for the New Information Economy:
Comparing China and India (2023) and numerous journal articles, conference presentations and invited talks on telecommunications policy and media economics.

He is the Co-Editor of the Journal of Information Policy, founded in 2011.

He has received research grants from the National Science Foundation, the Pacific Telecommunications Council, Time Warner Cable, the Free Press Foundation, etc. At Penn State, Dr. Jayakar is the Head of the Department of Telecommunications and Media Industries in the Bellisario College of Communications. He is the faculty coordinator for the Information and Communications Technologies for Development (ICT4D) Consortium, a university-wide group for research and teaching on communications technologies for development. He was the 2020 recipient of the Barry Sherman Award for media economics education from the Media Economics, Management and Entrepreneurship Division of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications.

Krishna received his undergraduate degree in engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology-BHU, India, and master’s and PhD degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, USA.

He has published extensively on the business of digital journalism, the digitalization and datafication of the news industry, and the institutional development of digital media.

Before joining the faculty at her alma mater, she was an Assistant Professor of Communication at the University of Arizona in the U.S. With her cross-disciplinary background in communication and business, Her research focuses on the social, political and business implications of individuals’ engagement with news and entertainment content in the evolving media environment.
Her recent projects seek to explain the performance of entertainment products through the theoretical lens of brand extension and country of origin. For instance, she has examined whether sequels and adaptations from existing work such as comic books and novels are more (or less) successful in terms of revenues and critical acclaim. She has also investigated how social media users discussed Parasite’s Oscars wins in English vs. Korean.

He has a doctorate in physics from research at CERN, Geneva, and a further doctorate in social anthropology from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich. After extensive practice in applied research with Fraunhofer Society, he developed management experience in strategy consulting and as a board member of a publisher’s digital venture.
His publications generally focus on the preconditions, diffusion, and effects of media innovations. His current research focuses on the impact of artificial intelligence on the creative industries. Kunz Reinhard, professor, dr. He has been chair holder of »Innovation Management and Media« at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since March 2023.
His research interests lie in business administration and media management, primarily focusing on innovation. He deals with different aspects of innovation and media management of companies in the media, entertainment, information technology, and telecommunications industries. Following a behavioral science approach, individual and organisational behavior are explained and predicted. Additionally, the management of digital change and its impact on customers, companies, and society are examined. Practical implications for companies, managers, and decision-makers are derived.

Beyond his consulting experience, Marcin holds a PhD in Bioinformatics from Uppsala University, reflecting his academic background and affinity for scientific research. This background has additionally allowed him to apply his AI knowledge to the field of biology and genetics, contributing to advancements in genomic analysis and personalized medicine.

His research interests include the measurement of media reputation, the impacts of media on economy and business, the diffusion of information and communication technologies, audience research, and big data and machine learning in communication research. He has more than 50 publications in journals and books, and received 14 top paper awards from academic conferences.
